Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data Tavern collects when you visit, why, and the control you have over it. We keep it plain because privacy notices should be readable.

Who We Are

Tavern operates the website at tavern.ca, an independent review site covering online casino payouts for Canadian players. This policy covers only this website. It does not cover the casinos we link to, which run their own sites under their own privacy policies. Any questions about this policy can go to editorial@tavern.ca.

What Data We Collect

We collect very little, and we do not ask you to create an account or hand over personal details to read the site. The data that reaches us falls into two groups.

Information you give us

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to write. We use it only to reply and to act on what you sent, such as checking a correction or logging a payout experience. We do not add you to a mailing list.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we collect basic technical data through analytics: the pages you view, roughly how long you stay, the type of device and browser you use, the referring site, and an approximate location based on your IP address. This is aggregated to understand what content is useful. We do not use it to identify you personally.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. We use a small number of them. Essential cookies keep the site working and remember basic preferences. Analytics cookies help us count visits and see which pages are read, in aggregate. Affiliate cookies, described below, record that you reached a casino through a link on our site.

You are in control of cookies. Your browser lets you block or delete them, and you can decline non-essential cookies where a consent banner is shown. Blocking cookies will not stop you reading the site, though a link you follow may not be attributed to us.

Affiliate Tracking

Tavern earns commission through affiliate links, and we want to be clear about how the tracking works. When you click a link to a casino, that operator or its affiliate network may set a cookie or pass a tracking parameter that tells them the visit came from us. If you then sign up, we may be credited with a commission at no extra cost to you.

That tracking records the referral, not your gameplay. We do not receive your name, your deposits, your losses or your account details from the casino. We see aggregate reporting such as how many referrals converted, never who you are or what you did once you were on the operator's site.

Third-Party Links and Services

This site links out to online casinos and, occasionally, to support organisations and regulators. Once you follow a link, you are on a site we do not control and this policy no longer applies. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any operator before you register or deposit. We also rely on third-party providers for hosting and analytics, and those providers process data on our behalf under their own terms.

How We Use and Protect Data

We use the limited data we hold to run and improve the site, to respond to your messages, and to understand how our reviews are used so we can make them more useful. We do not sell your personal information. We retain email correspondence only as long as it is useful for the reason you contacted us, and analytics data is kept in aggregate. We take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold, though no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.

Your Rights

Under Canadian privacy law, including PIPEDA and applicable provincial legislation, you have the right to ask what personal information we hold about you, to request a correction, and to ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it. Because we collect so little and do not maintain user accounts, in most cases the only personal data we hold is an email you sent us. To make a request, write to editorial@tavern.ca and we will respond within a reasonable time.

Age

This site is intended for adults of legal gambling age in their province, which is 19 in most of Canada and 18 in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec. It is not directed at anyone under that age, and we do not knowingly collect information from minors.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the site or the law changes. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top. Significant changes will be reflected on this page, so it is worth checking back if privacy matters to you.
